I need to manage 30 iPad2s in an academic library. They will be checked out by students for use in the library. When they are checked in, we need to be able to wipe what they have added so that the next student checking out the device will have a clean machine.

Has anyone found a way to make restoring from a back up easy. One of the issues I'm experiencing is that if I create a perfect backup of one of the iPads and then restore from that back up, it replaces the name of that iPad so that we get 30 iPads with the same name. Another issue is, when I restore from backup iTunes keeps a log of that action and the list becomes too long to find the "perfect" backup to restore from. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Be sure to check out Apple's education resources - they are pretty extensive (and responsive if you call)

And this guide too: http://images.apple.com/education/docs/20110727_IOS_4_Education_Deployment_Guide.pdf

Looks like you want Centralized Sync - wipe the iPad, download a config and then sync away!

iOS 5 should improve on this even further...
