After upgrading to 10.2.5, I've noticed that my programs tend to lock up frequently. It seems that after I've had the computer on for a day or two, after a certain point, whenever I open a new app (IE, System Prefs, Console, Calculator, etc.), the app will load, then I'll get the spinning beachball forever. The only way to fix it is to restart, which now takes forever.

Another oddity--when I force quite the programs that are not responding, I have to force quit twice. The first time, nothing happens, but the second time the program actually does quit. I feel like I'm on a Windows machine. What an awful feeling. :(

The fact that it takes a long time to restart makes me think that the startup disk check is perhaps finding something and fixing it. Have you tried starting in Single User Mode and running fsck -y, or starting from the OS installation CD and running Disk Utility. Run the repair until you get two 'ok's'.

Do this repair routine once, and restart and work for an hour and then do the same repair routine. If the same corruption is back that you had fixed an hour ago, it might take DiskWarrior to really fix it. That is what happened to me one time.

Good luck.
