Looking through iTunes 4 update I see that it allows you to set the artwork for albums. Great I think - that's one of the disadvantages of MP3 to me...

So off I pop to my friendly neighbourhood online music store? and get some piccies... I add them to the albums then connect the ipod. Which then updates the files that I have added the pictures to.

Thats when it hits me. The pictures are embedded in the MP3 files. So for each file there is a %increase in size, and of course each file repeats the artwork, rather than having a central database... damn.

And of course there is no option not to copy the pictures to the iPod. Or is there?

You can Convert the ID3-Tags to an older Version an all Pictures are deleted. So you might backup your Songs with the Pictures, than delete the Pictures und copy them to the iPod.
OK, thats not a convenient way and you have to update the iPod manually, but so far it works. Any better idea?

I'm not sure if this would help you out, but I'm considering using Clutter (http://www.sprote.com/clutter/) instead of iTunes for album covers - looks like a good implementation.

You could also use Clutter to auto-download all your album covers to then cut and paste into iTunes, if you'd like.

Anyone have experiences to share, concerning Clutter?

Seen, the info on clutter, and it appears to be better than what I was doing... (manual + amazon), however it still doesn't solve the main problem:

There is no way of stopping image info from being added to the ipod.

Or is there?

That's why I brought up Clutter. It's storage of CD cover art has nothing to do with the MP3 files - leaving the MP3 files for music data only.

Hope that helps! Let us know how you like it and how it's worked out..
