System Information:
powerMac G4
Mac OS X (10.1)
OS9.2.2 - on a separate partit
I have a G4 with an AsanteFast 590 PCI installed.
Cable modem - DHCP.
Installed OS X 10.1.2.
Installed extension AsanteFast 590.kext.
(1) Both cards (built-in nic and AsanteFast nic) work when I boot with OS 9.2.2.
(2) Both cards work when I boot with LINUX.
(3) In OS X the Asante card works fully when I install the beta driver.
The problem is - the Apple built-in nic then returns the 169 address.
(4) The clue:
If I follow this sequence exactly
(a) - boot with OS X 10.1.2 and no Asante 590 driver installed - built-in nic works, Asante card is not recognized (as expected)
(b) - install the OS X beta driver - the built-in nic works, the Asante card is recognized
(c) - reboot using OS X 10.1.2 - the built-n nic does NOT work, the Asante card works
(d) - remove the Asante 590 extension from the Extensions folder
(e) - reboot using OS X 10.1.2 - the built-in nic works, the Asante card is not recognized
(f) - add back the Asante 590 extension by moving the file (not reinstalling it) to the Extensions folder
(g) - reboot using OS X 10.1.2 - the built-in nic works, the Asante card is recognized
(h) - reboot using OS X 10.1.2 - the built-n nic does NOT work, the Asante card works
(i) - repeating (d) to (h) is reproducible.
(j) - each step can be confirmed with <ping> from a networked Mac (through the Asante nic) running LINUX
(k) - it seems as if something is not closed down/released properly at reboot
The problem persists with OS X 10.1.3
===============================================
The Asante people say that I am the only one experiencing this problem, that they cannot reproduce the problem, and that the problem cannot be in their product.
===============================================
(1) What am I doing wrong?
(2) How do I correct it?
(3) Is there something wrong with my OS X installation?
