How is this done? I have been back to the Store, but no obvious way to do it and no auto-notifications.

TIA

Gavin

We can do it either through iTunes on our Macs or with the AppSore app on our mobile iDevice.

In iTunes, click on the Apps area and look around. (it's harder to explain than it is to bump into).

Thanks. Do you get a notification/do you re-purchase the app - i.e., what exact steps do you need to take. I am getting zilch info for some reason.

TIA

Gavin

Does the top left area of your Mac's iTunes window resemble this?
Library
Music
Movies
Apps

And when you click on that Apps, is there anything on the bottom right edge resembling this?

Check for Updates >
Click on that.

Edit: re: notifications

Yes, my iPad does adorn the AppStore icon with a red numbered badge indicating how many updates are awaiting download. It looks much like the Mail icon when there are unread messages on the server.

Edit: re: procedure

Yes, it entails entering our password and clicking on a button labeled "Buy" -- despite the fact that it's just a free update.
[we even get emailed a receipt for $0.00 :) ]

Bingo! Thanks for that. I was expecting a small red icon, similar to the iPhone system.

Done now anyway.

Thanks again!

P.S. If you buy that "Desktop" app, you get a warning screen about objectionable content?????

idunno... which "Desktop" app is that?

Search in the app store for Desktop by Aqua Eagle.

When I bought it (and with this update) I get a warning dialogue about content that "may be objectionable to persons under 17 years of age". Quite bizarre - unless there is something hidden in the app that I have missed. :-)

If you pull up the App Store on the iPhone, you'll get the red badge if there are updates available.

Yes, I do with the iPhone, but my iPad is not giving me that???

My apologies. I didn't catch that you were talking iPad instead of iPhone, a device I've used for all of five minutes. But I'm surprised to hear it behaves differently, and poking around I can't find an image of the iPad App Store with a badge on it.

Maybe it is because I am not in the US? The store is very IP aware for some reason. e.g. I can't find a way to buy books. Blah...blah... "not supported in your country". That really gets my back up. So, an American buys an iPad, goes on holiday to Thailand and he/she can't buy a book to read! Stupid.

I've had my iPad for four weeks now, and the red badge appears on the App Store icon when updates are available... and I am in the U.S.

I also installed a few of my old iPhone apps on the new iPad (ones that haven't been converted over yet), and although I clicked on "buy", I received a message that said I had already purchased this app and so it would be free.
