View Full Version : Sleep breaks DSL-Networking - but not for Classic

Hi,
I am expiriencing the following weird problem ever since I upgraded my IMac to OS X:
The iMac uses a dsl modem and makes the connection via PPPoE.
All works fine until I put the iMac to sleep.
When doing so, I see a quick "Disconnecting PPP connection" before the screen goes black.
When I wake it up again, everything seems to be fine, I can see that Internet Connect builds up the PPPoE Connection again, gets an IP address,...
BUT: networking just doesn't work anymore, no www, no ping, nothing! Logging out and in again does not solve the problem. I can disconnect and reconnect, but still no network.
BUT No. 2: Networking in Classic is just fine! I can surf, do my Online Banking stuf, etc.

I've reinstalled the system three times (I think) and done all the updates, so what could be the problem?

Thanks for helping.

Do you have a firewall set up ?
Do you have an IP up script in etc/ppp/ip-up ?
Do you use natd ? It does not always reset itself.

The ebst thing you can do is to tail -f /var/log/system.log in the terminal, and try to ping any machine (e.g. www.google.com) in another terminal window. Look at what appears in /var/log/system.log and come back here.

I have the same issue on a Tibook 667 GB Ethernet since I installed 10.2.3.

When I put the system to sleep and wake it, my network settings are present but I cannot access any network resources. I can ping my own IP address but nothing else either on local LAN or Internet.

Here is what appears in system log:

Even more strange, if I am attached to a network via the copper 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter, my network settings are present after waking, if I am using my Airport, all network settings dissappear. I've tried manually setting Ip addresses etc. and end up in beachball hell.

I ran ~6 months before 10.2.3 repeatedly puttiing my system to sleep w/o any problems.

I tried reinstalling 10.2.3 combined update and even formatted my Tibook this weekend and still have same issue. Another friend of mine with a TiBook 800 had the excact same issue and reinstalling combined 10.2.3 update fixed it for him. Smells like a BUG to me.
