View Full Version : "Computer" Finder Window Problem

Hi, I'm having a slight problem (nothing big, but it's still annoying)... I noticed, sometime after 10.2.3 came out, that my "Computer" window (the one that shows up when you make a new Finder window, or click on the Finder in the dock when no Finder windows are open, etc.) will not save any view preferences. I had it set to 64x64 icons, with a background, and sort by name. When the problem starting occurring, it would always change instantly back to 32x32 with no view options checked, but it DOES keep the background picture. No matter what I try, any change I make to the view options of the window do not stick.

I believe it doesn't save the preference at all, so I thought it might be a corrupt plist somewhere.. I tried to change the setting in the plist, and delete some of the sections in the plist, and the deleting worked.. kind of. It got rid of the background picture, but that was it. I was able to set the background picture again, which still stays there, but the icon size and view options still refuse to change. Any suggestions? Thank so much!

Your solutions lie within the information in this hint (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030305025744788) as well as this link (http://www.personal.kent.edu/~blukens/viewoptions.html) from one of the comments on that hint.

Thanks a ton!! I fixed it with the method they described (launch Property List Editor and the terminal, use the terminal to quit the Finder, and make the changes) But I find it strange that I'm not able to change the Computer view settings from the Finder's own built-in settings dialogue. I was able to in 10.2 and I believe I was able to up until 10.2.3, but is this a problem or is it expected? After changing the settings with PLE, I still can't change the settings from the Finder. Oh well, maybe it'll get figured out in a future version :P
